Anishnawbe Mushkiki’s mandate is to provide culturally sensitive primary health care service delivery to Indigenous people in Thunder Bay. Anishnawbe Mushkiki employees will be committed to and will promote the mission statement, philosophy and objectives of Anishnawbe Mushkiki. Anishnawbe Mushkiki employees will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • An awareness of the Indigenous community’s life styles.
  • Sensitivity and understanding regarding the daily struggles faced by Indigenous families on limited incomes.
  • A basic knowledge and understanding of the spiritual way of life preserved by traditional Indigenous people.
  • Recognition and acknowledgment of the involvement of the extended family.
  • Support for the promotion of all Indigenous language and culture.
  • Understanding of the role of Indigenous Elders within the Indigenous community.
  • The desire and ability to work as a team member for the improvement of quality of health/life of Indigenous People.
  • Basic knowledge and a commitment to utilizing a holistic approach for the delivery of health care, combining western, traditional and alternative medicine.
